Hudson Valley Biogas ("HVB," "we," "us") is a community-aligned initiative focused on circular economy and systems-thinking project development in New York's Hudson Valley. This privacy policy explains what we collect on this website and why.
Controller & contact
Hudson Valley Biogas, located in New York, is the controller. For privacy questions, deletion requests, or to exercise rights, contact us through the Contact page so we route the request to the right person.
Purposes of processing
- Responding to inquiries and coordinating partnerships/pilots.
- Granting access to requested downloads (starter kits, reports).
- Keeping the website’s proof points aligned with partner requests and feedback.
Lawful bases
- Legitimate interests: replying to you, coordinating pilots/partners, and maintaining clear documentation is necessary for our mission.
- Consent: when we collect marketing opt-ins (not yet implemented), we will rely on clear consent you provide.
Recipients & processors
We keep disclosures minimal. If we integrate third-party schedulers (Calendly, etc.) or file hosting, those services receive only the details you enter into their forms and operate under their own policies. We do not share data with marketing partners unless you opt in.
What we collect
- Email address (optional): if you enter an email to unlock the Resources library.
- Local browser storage: we store a small “access token” (your email) in
localStorageso you stay unlocked on this device. - Messages you send us: if you contact us via email, form, or scheduling link, we receive what you send.
What we do not collect (today)
- We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not run behavioral advertising on this site.
How we use information
- To provide access to requested downloads (resources hub).
- To respond to inquiries and coordinate partnerships and pilot proposals.
- To improve the clarity and usefulness of HVB’s materials and offerings.
Resources “email gate” note
The current Resources gate is designed as a lightweight intent filter. In the current implementation, your email is stored only in your browser on your device (client-side) and is not automatically transmitted to a server unless you also submit it through a real email provider embed (e.g., Mailchimp) or a contact form.
If you are on a shared computer, use the “Lock downloads” button in the Resources page to remove access from this device.
Third-party services
This site may link to third-party services (for example: a scheduling tool such as Calendly, or PDF hosting) which have their own privacy policies. If you use those services, their policies apply.
Data retention
- Local access token: stored until you clear site data or click "Lock downloads."
- Email conversations and form submissions: retained as long as reasonably necessary for partnership/project coordination.
Your rights
- Access: ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: ask us to correct incomplete or inaccurate information.
- Erasure: request deletion of data we processed solely to respond to your inquiry.
- Restriction: ask us to limit processing while we verify a request.
- Portability: receive a copy of the data you provided in a common format.
- Objection: contest processing based on legitimate interests (we’ll pause while we reassess).
International transfers
The website is hosted in the United States. When we rely on third-party services outside your region, they are bound by their own safeguards (e.g., EU-approved standard contractual clauses). You can request details via the Contact page.
Complaints
EU/UK visitors: you can complain to a supervisory authority in your member state (for example, the Irish Data Protection Commission or UK Information Commissioner’s Office) if you believe your rights have been violated. We welcome first contact via the Contact page.
Contact
For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact us via the Contact page. Include “Privacy” in the subject line so it routes quickly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as HVB evolves. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above.
